VENDOR MANAGED INVENTORY
Northborough, MA (1-2-2008) - iPower Distribution Group of New England recently was presented with the Outstanding Supplier Performance Award by Varian Semiconductor Equipment at the Strategic Supply Chain Conference held June 6, 2007, according to Doug Markham, President of iPowerNE. The award was in recognition of iPower of New England’s outstanding performance providing solutions to its supply chain performance challenges.
“It is very satisfying to accept this recognition from such an outstanding company, such as Varian Semiconductor Equipment, and to realize that our partnership with them has resulted in tangible, measurable success,” said Markham.
Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI)
Challenged a few years ago to develop a comprehensive solution to a supply chain suffering from too many vendors, low buying leverage, unfavorable purchase price variances, extended lead-times, rejections and stock-outs, iPowerNE created a staged impact vendor managed inventory (VMI) program. The current program manages 1,300 parts, 5,100 active bin locations and 17,000 purchase order lines. In addition, the program now controls the tool crib controlling 770 parts, 1,400 active locations and 10,400 purchase order lines.
“Mr. Carey Rhoten, CEO of The Hope Group, and member of the board of directors of iPowerNE, said, “The program has grown three-fold over the past few years, which is an astounding rate of growth, because it delivered on its promise.” According to Rhoten, as the program developed, it freed up purchasing capacity of the company, decreased lead times, increased on time delivery and improved overall quality.
